I just wanted to share something I read recently concerning homosexuality and the bible: Leviticus was all about keeping things in their proper categories, because certain things did not go together (do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material, do not mate different kinds of animals, etc). Now, women back then were considered property, and they either belong to their father or their husband. This is why a man raping an unmarried virgin has to pay a fine to her father: he damaged another mans property. Now, a man having sex with his new wife was his way of claiming his property. Because it would be wrong to claim a fellow man as property (at least in this way - it would be putting a man in the same category as a woman) it was condemned. This is why it says “shall not lie with a man *as with a woman*”. This might be why women sleeping with women is never mentioned: because a woman can’t have property anyway.
